Cappella Del SuonoPavillon • Lunano,Italy • 16m² • 07/25
The Cappella del Suono consists of a lightweight wooden structure that blends sensitively into the surrounding hilly landscape through its open and permeable design. Vertical wooden slats form a regular grid structure that provides both visual protection and permeability.
The slats are suspended at varying lengths, creating a playful and almost floating lower edge, resembling a kind of hanging wooden curtain. Due to the varying lengths and precisely drilled holes at the ends of the slats, a multilayered sound emerges when the elements collide. Especially in stronger winds, the tones produced by the pavilion are reminiscent of the bell chimes from the nearby Convento di Monte Illuminato monastery. This acoustic dimension complements the dynamic interplay of light, shadow, and transparency, which changes with the movement of the sun and transforms the pavilion into a richly atmospheric space of experience.
The structure rests on slender vertical supports that are simply anchored to the ground, emphasizing the temporary and minimally invasive nature of the installation.
The pavilion appears to grow organically from the surrounding grain field, as if it had naturally emerged from the landscape itself. It can be understood as a space of permeability, open enough to remain part of the landscape and yet clearly defined as an architectural place. An integrated bench, which extends from the interior to the exterior, invites visitors to experience the space in a constantly changing relationship with its surroundings.
The choice of untreated wood harmonizes with the natural surroundings and makes the structure a subtle intervention that enhances rather than dominates the landscape.
